LOOK TO THE FUTURE

SIGMA ALPHA SORORITY NATIONAL CONVENTION

FUN!  FUN  FUN!  Chatting! Singing! Laughing! Eating! Shopping! Sight-seeing Tours! And Business Meetings!

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (June 26, 27 & 28)

A BIG THANK YOU to the Sigma Alpha Sorority National Council and to the MANY committee members from the numerous Sigma Alpha Sorority Chapters throughout the United States who were responsible for this year's successful convention.  In addition to being a wonderfully informative three days, everyone seemed to have a good time.  It was great fun to chat, sing and laugh with our Sisters from all over the United States--some Sisters whom we had not seen since our National Convention in Branson, Mo in 2008.

The San Diego Marriott Hotel in LaJolla, California was an exellent choice for our Sigma Alpha Sorority Annual National Convention--not only were the guest and meeting rooms elegant, but the hotel staff was very courteous.

Since some of our Sorority Sisters were unable to attend the Convention, I think it would be great if you who attended would share pictures and stories with them.  If you will Email your pictures and/or stories to me,  I will post them to this website.

Wanda Sherrill Bo,

Sigma Alpha - A National Sorority founded in 1913 in Chicago, Illinois

Philanthropy

Sigma Alpha’s National Charity is Heartspring, in Wichita, Kansas. Heartspring is a worldwide center for children with special needs.

Sigma Alpha’s affiliation with Heartspring began in 1945, and since that time we have contributed over a million dollars for renovation of an Interfaith Chapel on the original campus, student financial assistance and emergency funds and funding the multi-sensory environment room for autistic students. In addition to our contributions, each year we collect and send to Heartspring General Mills Box tops and Tyson Labels to be used for securing supplies and needed materials for education.

Many of Sigma Alpha’s Chapters and Regional Councils provide support to innumerable local charities.

Organization

Sigma Alpha Sorority is a social and philanthropic organization with no academic affiliation.

Sigma Alpha Sorority is established by Chapters, Regional Councils and a National Council.

Chapters are located across the country in California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Chapter affairs are conducted under the supervision of the Regional Council. National Council is the highest governing body of Sigma Alpha Sorority.

History

On November 14, 1913, five young ladies attending Longwood Academy in Chicago, Illinois formed a “secret club” whose foundation was friendship.

The yellow tea rose was selected as the official flower. Sorority colors of brown and gold were chosen and the acorn of the great oak tree became symbolic of growth and strength.

Sigma Alpha Sorority became a National Sorority of five chapters on June 22, 1917, when a charter was granted in the State of Illinois. Over the years, Sigma Alpha’s growth has surpassed our Founder’s vision.

Sigma Alpha’s dedication, love and commitment over the years led to a seat on the Board of Trustees of Heartspring as well as receiving the Dr. Martin F. Palmer Humanitarian Award on June 8, 1971.

Sigma Alpha is proud to have a Diamond Award member and many Golden Award and Silver Award members. These 75 year, 50 year, and 25 year members speak volumes of the sustained fellowship and field of service for which Sigma Alpha is dedicated.
